School Tours

We invite you to come learn more about our school.  Our tours are an excellent opportunity for families to visit classrooms and learn about instructional and extra-curricular programs.  It is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

We hope to see you on one of our tours!

  • We offer school tours beginning in January 2019. They will continue through early March of 2019.

Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Tips

Dear Lockhurst Parents,

As you all know our children’s safety is extremely important to me each day.  With this, I am asking for everyone’s assistance when picking up and dropping off your children each day.  Below are pedestrian and traffic safety tips.

  • Always use a crosswalk, never cross in the middle of any street.
  • Students and parents are expected to USE THE CROSSWALKS AT ALL TIMES. NO JAYWALKING!
  • Always look both ways before crossing, even if you’re in a crosswalk.
  • Please use caution and be considerate of other drivers. DO NOT MAKE 3-point or U-turns in the  middle of the street.
  • No double-stopping/parking. Please be respectful of our neighbors
  • Texting while driving is illegal and unsafe. Drivers must concentrate on the road, not their cellphones.
  • Completely stop at every stop sign. We do not have crossing guards so please look out for pedestrians.
  • Slow down! Children can be unpredictable and could run out into your driving path.
  • No stopping in the middle of the road to drop off or pick up students.

Car Valet Program

  • Please enter and exit the valet line cautiously. Slow down!
  • When dropping students off, use a clockwise pattern around the school, if applicable.
  • Have children exit the car from the curbside only.
  • Have your child’s backpack, lunch box, and/or musical instruments with them before they exit, not in the trunk.

Peak traffic times are between 7:40am – 8:00am and for the first 20 minutes immediately after school in the afternoons. Please be mindful of the rules above to ensure the safety of our children.

I thank you for your support with helping to keep our students and the streets around our school safe.  Please feel free to stop by the office in the morning or just prior to dismissal to pick up a valet vest to volunteer your time in the valet program.  A few minutes each day can help to prevent a situation in the future and help to enforce a safe environment for our students to come to and from school.

Please be sure to inform the office if your address changes at any time during the school year.  You will need to bring in verification of your new address (DWP bill, Gas bill, rental agreement, escrow papers, mortgage statement).

Student Emergency Information Cards are being mailed home to all students prior to the start of school.  Please fill them out, sign them and return them by the first day of school.  You can update or fill out a new card anytime during the school year.

Thank you.

A Message From Our Principal

Hello Drive Families and Happy Fall!  It is hard to believe that summer is officially over and we are now in the fall season.

Picture Day -  We had picture day on Friday, and the children came to school looking wonderful.  The photography company had some glitches and many of our classes were delayed in taking their picture until the end of the day.  I expressed my concern with the photographer who promised to provide everyone who had their photo taken with a preliminary proof prior to their photos being  printed and delivered. If any families are not satisfied with their child's photo proof, they will be able to retake their photo prior to make-up picture day. More details are to come in the next week or so.

Fire Drill - This Monday, we will have our September Fire Drill in the afternoon following lunch.  Please review with your children the importance of following their teachers directions during the drill as well as the plan you have at home in case of fire.

PTO Board Meeting - This Tuesday at 7:00pm we will have our September PTO Board Meeting in the library to discuss our upcoming events and fundraising opportunities.

Progress Reports - This Friday, teachers will be sending home progress reports for students who are working below standard or have missing or incomplete assignments that are impacting their grades prior to our first report cards. Please take the time to review the comments with your child and if needed set up an appointment to develop a plan for success with your child's teacher. I thank you in advance for your time and support with this.

Coffee with the Principal - On Friday following our morning assembly, we will have our first Coffee with the Principal at 8:30 a.m. in the library.  We will be reviewing and discussing our SBAC results from the Spring. We will also discuss our areas of success and a plan for any areas of need.  I hope to see you there, especially our 3rd - 5th grade parents.

This is all for now.  I hope you have a wonderful week and I thank you for your continued support.

Your Lockurst Principal, Mrs. DaCorsi
