A Message From Our Principal

Hello Drive Families!

It is hard to believe we are in the final weeks of the school year as we just finished our SBAC testing for the year.  I thank those families who worked to have their children in school each day and on time during testing.  This helped to eliminate the number of make-ups and allowed our students to do their best the first time around in the environment they are most comfortable learning in.  This week we have a quiet week with our Spring Orchestra Concert on Thursday, May 24th at 1:30 pm in the auditorium.  Information may have been sent out previously with a 1:15 pm start time, but the official time for the concert will be 1:30 pm.  I look forward to seeing our families there as I know our children will be wonderful as Mrs. Mitchell has been working hard with them all year long.

On Friday, we will have a minimum day dismissal at 12:42 pm.  Primary grade parents please be sure to make arrangements to pick your child up on time.  This helps them not worry about you and assists the office greatly.

In observance of Memorial Day there will be no school on Monday, May 28th with school resuming on Tuesday, May 29th.

Lastly, we will have minimum days the final week of school except for 1:22 pm dismissal on Tuesday, June 5th with our last day of school being Thursday, June 7th.

I hope you all have a nice evening and remainder of the weekend.

This is all for now.

Your Lockhurst Principal, Mrs. DaCorsi

Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Tips

Dear Lockhurst Parents,

As you all know our children’s safety is extremely important to me each day.  With this, I am asking for everyone’s assistance when picking up and dropping off your children each day.  Below are pedestrian and traffic safety tips.

  • Always use a crosswalk, never cross in the middle of any street.
  • Students and parents are expected to USE THE CROSSWALKS AT ALL TIMES. NO JAYWALKING!
  • Always look both ways before crossing, even if you’re in a crosswalk.
  • Please use caution and be considerate of other drivers. DO NOT MAKE 3-point or U-turns in the  middle of the street.
  • No double-stopping/parking. Please be respectful of our neighbors
  • Texting while driving is illegal and unsafe. Drivers must concentrate on the road, not their cellphones.
  • Completely stop at every stop sign. We do not have crossing guards so please look out for pedestrians.
  • Slow down! Children can be unpredictable and could run out into your driving path.
  • No stopping in the middle of the road to drop off or pick up students.

Car Valet Program

  • Please enter and exit the valet line cautiously. Slow down!
  • When dropping students off, use a clockwise pattern around the school, if applicable.
  • Have children exit the car from the curbside only.
  • Have your child’s backpack, lunch box, and/or musical instruments with them before they exit, not in the trunk.

Peak traffic times are between 7:40am – 8:00am and for the first 20 minutes immediately after school in the afternoons. Please be mindful of the rules above to ensure the safety of our children.

SAFETY IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY

I thank you for your support with helping to keep our students and the streets around our school safe.  Please feel free to stop by the office in the morning or just prior to dismissal to pick up a valet vest to volunteer your time in the valet program.  A few minutes each day can help to prevent a situation in the future and help to enforce a safe environment for our students to come to and from school.

Sincerely,

Susie DaCorsi

Principal

CHANGE OF ADDRESS

PARENTS,

Please be sure to inform the office if your address changes at any time during the school year.  You will need to bring in verification of your new address (DWP bill, Gas bill, rental agreement, escrow papers, mortgage statement).

Student Emergency Information Cards are being mailed home to all students prior to the start of school.  Please fill them out, sign them and return them by the first day of school.  You can update or fill out a new card anytime during the school year.

Thank you.
