Lockhurst Drive Charter Elementary School

School Tours

We invite you to come learn more about our school.  Our tours are an excellent opportunity for families to visit classrooms and learn about instructional and extra-curricular programs.  It is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

We hope to see you on one of our tours!

  • Our school tours are typically from December through early March and have now ended.  For another opportunity to see Lockhurst, come to our Open House on April 12, 2018.

Hello Drive Families!

I am so very proud of our brave 1st – 5th grade students who demonstrated their confidence, determination, and strong spelling skills at our Lockhurst Spelling Bee on Thursday. Their hard work and bravery is to be admired. Congratulations! They will be representing Lockhurst at the Hale Complex Spelling Bee on April 25th at Lockhurst. I know they are going do a great job and make Lockhurst proud.

I want to thank all the parents who came out to Coffee with the Principal on Friday to review and discuss our current assessment data in Language Arts and Math. Their participation, questions, and discussion was helpful and appreciated.

This week our children have a busy week with a few exciting adventures.

On Monday, our 4th Graders are going on a field trip to VT Ranch in Castaic and our 5th graders are going on our first Lockhurst overnight trip to WOLF Camp in Simi Valley for 3 days and 2 nights. I cannot wait to hear about all the memories.

On both Monday and Tuesday, PTO will be hosting restaurant night at Dog Haus on Topanga from 11am – 10pm. Don’t worry about making dinner and help support Lockhurst with dinner out.

On Tuesday, our 2nd graders will be going to the Getty Museum and Tuesday evening will be our March PTO Board Meeting in the library at 7:00 pm.

Friday will be our last day of school prior to Spring Break. It will also be a minimum day with 12:42pm dismissal. Please do not forget to mark your calendar so all our children are picked up on time. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Lastly, with this being our last week prior to Spring Break please be sure to stop by the Lost and Found to recover lost clothing, jackets, water bottles, or lunch boxes. Any items left as of Friday will be donated.

This is all for now. I hope you have a nice week ahead.

Your Lockhurst Principal, Mrs. DaCorsi

Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Tips

Dear Lockhurst Parents,

As you all know our children’s safety is extremely important to me each day.  With this, I am asking for everyone’s assistance when picking up and dropping off your children each day.  Below are pedestrian and traffic safety tips.

  • Always use a crosswalk, never cross in the middle of any street.
  • Students and parents are expected to USE THE CROSSWALKS AT ALL TIMES. NO JAYWALKING!
  • Always look both ways before crossing, even if you’re in a crosswalk.
  • Please use caution and be considerate of other drivers. DO NOT MAKE 3-point or U-turns in the  middle of the street.
  • No double-stopping/parking. Please be respectful of our neighbors
  • Texting while driving is illegal and unsafe. Drivers must concentrate on the road, not their cellphones.
  • Completely stop at every stop sign. We do not have crossing guards so please look out for pedestrians.
  • Slow down! Children can be unpredictable and could run out into your driving path.
  • No stopping in the middle of the road to drop off or pick up students.

Car Valet Program

  • Please enter and exit the valet line cautiously. Slow down!
  • When dropping students off, use a clockwise pattern around the school, if applicable.
  • Have children exit the car from the curbside only.
  • Have your child’s backpack, lunch box, and/or musical instruments with them before they exit, not in the trunk.

Peak traffic times are between 7:40am – 8:00am and for the first 20 minutes immediately after school in the afternoons. Please be mindful of the rules above to ensure the safety of our children.

I thank you for your support with helping to keep our students and the streets around our school safe.  Please feel free to stop by the office in the morning or just prior to dismissal to pick up a valet vest to volunteer your time in the valet program.  A few minutes each day can help to prevent a situation in the future and help to enforce a safe environment for our students to come to and from school.

Please be sure to inform the office if your address changes at any time during the school year.  You will need to bring in verification of your new address (DWP bill, Gas bill, rental agreement, escrow papers, mortgage statement).

Student Emergency Information Cards are being mailed home to all students prior to the start of school.  Please fill them out, sign them and return them by the first day of school.  You can update or fill out a new card anytime during the school year.

Thank you.
