We invite you to come learn more about our school.  Our tours are an excellent opportunity for families to visit classrooms and learn about instructional and extra-curricular programs.  It is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

This week we will be celebrating our love for reading, Dr. Seuss' birthday, and Read Ribbon Week with a variety of activities. Monday is pajama and guest reader day. Tuesday is Books, Blankets, and Buddies where parents can come read with their child's class from 8:00-8:30am. It is also twin/triplet day. Wednesday is crazy sock day. Thursday is crazy hair day. Friday is wear red day along with a 50 cent book sale. Also this week 2nd grade will be taking the OLSAT on Wednesday and Thursday with the practice test on Monday. 2nd grade parents please be sure your child is present on all these days. Wednesday we will have our next Gifted Parent Meeting at 6:00pm in the library. Ms. Choi and Ms. Harb will be presenting how our teachers integrate Depth and Complexity into their teaching and how you can incorporate this into your child's learning at home. Also there will be a PTSA meeting at 7:00pm in the library. On Thursday, we welcome our new office member Candence who will be replacing Sonja as she is off to enjoy her retirement. Also there is the 2nd grade awards assembly at 10:30am. All other grades will have their assembly on Friday at 10:30am and 12:40pm in the auditorium. We will have our next school tour on Friday for any new and prospective families on at 8:30am. No appointment is needed. Lastly, I would like to invite you all to the Local District Northwest STEAM Fest on Saturday at Cleveland High School from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Lockhurst along with over 100 valley schools will be showcasing their programs and strengths. More information will be sent home this week.

Grab Your Hat and Read with the Cat!

Next week we will be celebrating Read Across America!  It is a week to celebrate the word of Dr. Seuss and to instill a love of books in children.  We have different events planned for each day so please check the calendar below and help your child participate in the different activities.


Friday, February 24th

  • Read Across America Kick Off!  We will have a 50¢ used book sale on Friday, March 3rd.  Please bring in gently used, elementary school appropriate books by Thursday, March 2nd to donate to the sale.   Students will receive a Read Across America reading log to complete this week.  Students who hand in the log to Ms. Tanya will have their name put in a raffle for a gift card to Barnes and Noble.  

Monday, February 27th

  • Pajama Day!  Students may wear pajamas and bring books to read.  Please make sure your child wears school shoes.  No slippers allowed.
  • Guest Reader Day!  Special guest readers will read to you’re child’s class.

Tuesday, February 28th

  • Books, Blankets, Buddies!  Parents are invited to come at 8:00-8:30 am to read with the class.  Bring your favorite books to read to the children.  Please leave a comment below if you plan to attend.
  • Twin/Triplet Day!  Dress up as a twin/triplet with your friends.

Wednesday, March 1st

  • Fox in Sox Day!  Students can wear their craziest socks to school.  Be creative!  
  • Lunchtime Story time!  Have lunch on the lawn by the library and listen to a story read by students.

Thursday, March 2nd

  • Crazy Hair Day!  Style your hair is some form of craziness.
  • Read Across America reading logs due!

Friday, March 3rd

  • Well “RED” Day!  Dress up as your favorite Dr. Seuss character or wear as much red as you can.  We will have a morning assembly to close our celebration.  We will have our raffle drawing at the morning assembly.
  • Ms. Tanya will host the 50¢ book sale in the library during lunch time.  Bring your quarters to buy gently used books.

Please be sure to inform the office if your address changes at any time during the school year.  You will need to bring in verification of your new address (DWP bill, Gas bill, rental agreement, escrow papers, mortgage statement).

Student Emergency Information Cards are being mailed home to all students prior to the start of school.  Please fill them out, sign them and return them by the first day of school.  You can update or fill out a new card anytime during the school year.
